Ms. Brenda Catherine Owens was born on November 7, 1947 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Mr. George Forest Owens and Sarah Jane Washington Owens.  She was the second oldest daughter of a family of eight children.

Growing up in Terre Haute, she was a member of True Gospel Tabernacle Church and later Bethlehem Temple Church.  Brenda loved to sing and spent many years singing in the choir.  She became a member of New Wineskin Ministries in 2002, where she remained until she departed this life.  Brenda had a compassion for people and loved working as the leader of the NWM Care Group until she became too ill to serve.

Brenda attended Highland Elementary School and Garfield High School. She worked for Duke Energy as a customer service representative for over twenty years.  When she retired from Duke Energy in 1996, she decided to go college at the age of 50 years old.   She earned the honor of Valedictorian of her graduating class where she received an Associate‚Äôs degree from International Business College (Harrison College) it was one of her proudest moments.  She worked as a paralegal for several years for Warrior Insurance Company where she developed life-long friendships with Michelle Ware and A.J. Reiber.  She continued to enjoy her favorite hobbies, making angel centerpieces, floral arrangements and cooking until her health deteriorated.

Brenda made her transition on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Community Heart Hospital.  Both parents, George and Sarah Owens, one sister, Shirley Owens, and one brother George F. Owens Jr. preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her loss two children, Andrea D. Berry, and Harold Berry Jr. of Indianapolis, Indiana.  Three grandchildren, Anastasia Barker and Tamarah Custard of Indianapolis; Harold (Scooter) Berry III - U.S. Air Force- stationed in England.  Two great-grandchildren, Eli and Kylian; Three brothers, Loman Owens, William Owens (Nita) of Terre Haute, Indiana, and  Richard Owens ( Deborah) of New Orleans, Louisiana; two sisters, Nila Anderson (Ronnie), and Marsha Hedgeman ( George) all of Indianapolis, Indiana; two aunts, Helen Van Cleave of Indianapolis, Indiana and Flossie Davis of Cleveland, Ohio;  special friends Charles and Barbara Turner who she considered her other sister and brother;  a host of  nieces nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing Celebration will be at 3:00p.m. January 7, 2018 at New Wineskin Ministries, with visitation there from 2:00pm. Burial will take place on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Stewart Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Indiana. Final arrangements entrusted to Ellis Mortuary
