Mother Ann Marie Hazelwood Jackson, daughter of Reverend Robert and Theresa (Abrams) Hazelwood was born on January 20, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the third child born in a family of four. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bishop James C. and Robert L. Hazelwood, sister, Marvel E. Hazelwood Anderson and grandson, Michael Hutchinson.
Mother Jackson was a product of the Indianapolis Public Schools. She was a 1943 graduate of Crispus Attucks High School and attended Indiana Central now University of Indianapolis.
She met the love of her life, Johnnie Jackson and married January 11, 1947. To this union were born two daughters, Doris Jean Jackson Hutchinson of Muncie, Indiana and Cheryl Elaine Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mother Jackson had a great work ethic and retired after 30 years s a clerk at the Army Finance Center.
Hearing the call of God, she and her husband joined Zion Apostolic Faith Church under the leadership of Elder G. C. Mills. While at Zion she served in many capacities. She was a Sunday school teacher, Department Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School Dept. and chairperson for several youth auxiliaries and a faithful member of the church choir. She also served on the Hospitality Committee and will always be remembered as a gracious hostess by all those she greeted.
Mother Jackson was also involved with her community. She was well known as the Block Captain and later as Vice President of the Crooked Creek Neighborhood Association. Being concerned about injustices, she was an assistant secretary to the local NAACP. A highlight during her work with the NAACP was when she met Thurgood Marshall.
Mother Jackson leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Doris Jean Hutchinson and Cheryl E. Jackson; and granddaughters, Sherry J., Leisa R. and Natalie A. Hutchinson, all of Muncie, Indiana; great granddaughter, Talia M. Abdi or (Muncie, Indiana) a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends.
Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 12:00pm at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church, 4007 N. Sherman Drive, with visitation there from 10:00am until time of service. Entombment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Final arrangements and entrustment are with Ellis Mortuary.
