Marian Perkins Franklin, 93, died October 21, 2017. She was born in Indianapolis on December 30, 1923, to Edward and Bessie Hudson Perkins. She graduated with honors from Crispus Attucks High School, and was employed by the Lukas-Harold Corporation and the state of Indiana before spending the rest of her years as a homemaker. A 50-year member of Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, she lent her spiritual gifts as a musician and Sunday School teacher under her husband’s 20-year pastorate. A multi-talented person with many interests, she played classical piano, was an excellent seamstress, and followed end-time prophecy, politics, and genealogy with great passion. She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; her husband Bishop James O. Franklin; grandson Frederick Franklin; and great-grandson Gabriel Franklin. She is survived by two sisters, Betty Perkins Finney and Jacquelyn Perkins Starks; 11 children, Stephen Franklin (Verbena); Paul Franklin (Yvonne); Marshall Franklin; Bishop Jonathan Franklin (Terri Jean); Teresa Kilpatrick; David Franklin; Anita Preddie (Aloysius); Timothy Franklin; Gordon Franklin; Nancy Gates (Bishop Lambert W. Sr.); and Kathleen Preddie (Andrew Sr.). Survivors also include 27 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. The homegoing service will be conducted by Ellis Mortuary at Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, 4900 E. 38th Street, on Friday, October 27, with visitation at 5 p.m. followed by the service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery on Saturday, October 28 at 9 a.m. The family extends special thanks for the excellent care given by the staffs at Hooverwood nursing facility and St. Vincent Hospice.
